Oh Light, Nynaeve, you cannot cry. You cannot. And you cannot keep him. He isn't yours, not like that. You wouldn't love him so if he were. Now do what you must.
She kisses him goodbye in the stable--or rather she asks him to kiss her. Public doesn't matter, not this time. Though she wishes he wouldn't bring up the clawing. She likes it, and he certainly likes it, but it isn't proper.
And then they mount their horses, he on Mandarb, she on Loversknot, and oh that name she chose it she did because it means something then she is weaving a gateway to the Borderlands and following Lan through.
She lets that weave dissipate, forming another almost immediately--but not back the way she came--not quite.
Lan turns to her then, questions in his eyes and on his lips, because this is not where he meant to come. But she has already turned her horse and set it to bolt through the gateway.
And the last words she speaks to him echo in her head, even as she rides through the gateway and into the fields beyond.
I told you I would take you to the Borderlands, Lan, and I have. Remember your oath, my heart, because I surely will.
And then, of course, something bends.
